Vacation recommendations with a Sprinkle of Dead Bodies, and a dash of the Antichrist
Review of Season 13
In March 2024; we had some great episodes full of ghosts, curses, child stars, and shipwrecks. In our first episode, you heard more tales about the ghosts who reside in Kingston, Ontario, which is considered to be Canada’s most haunted city. Kingston is a ghost’s dream city. There are plenty of historic limestone homes to lurk in, and plenty of dark alleys to jump out from. Kingston embraces its dark past, and for those who want to visit; here are my recommendations of places to go:
Fort Henry National Historic Site: The best way to see this site is either by a ghost tour, or at their Fort Fright Nights. This happens every October when the fort turns into one of the top haunted houses in North America. I have personally seen things at this site that I just can’t rationalize, and maybe you will too. After all, on clear nights the ghost of Nils von Schoultz is often seen walking around the site in his ghostly tattered military uniform. Also take a few minutes to look off the Battlements towards Dead Man’s Bay. Often people see the spectres of the dead who gave this bay its name.
Kingston Penitentiary: Even without the ghosts, this tour is pretty cool. But now that this place is now a living museum - more and more people are having paranormal experiences there. I have taken this tour, and it was great. I didn’t see any ghosts, but still - this place will give you shivers right down to your bones with or without the ghosts.
Agnes Etherington Arts Center: Want to see a ghost and some art at the same time? This is the place to do it. Often visitors hear the ghost of Agnes playing her piano, and others claim that she follows them through the building. She only wants everyone to respect her former home. Why do I say that? There is a report that one staff member saw Agnes’s piano playing itself. She turned to leave and she heard a disembodied voice say, “You forgot one.” That is when she realized she did forget to turn off a single light. I guess ghostly Agnes is worried about the power bill.
Kingston Ghost and Mystery Trolley Tour: This famous hop on hop off trolley tour is 90 minutes long, and shows you several of the spots that we spoke about in our episodes. But it does make a couple of other interesting stops, like stopping at the grave site of the first Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald. He is known for some great things, but the bad things he did may be the reason that grass will not grow on his grave.
Our next episode told the stories of dams around the world that are said to be cursed, but I think my favourite tale is of the Hoover Dam. That is because this dam has so many conspiracies attached to it from bodies trapped inside the dam to the coming of the Antichrist. But the tales of the hauntings attached to this dam are much older than its connection to Satanists. There were a lot of people who died there during the construction, and since that time. It makes logical sense that if would be ghosts with so many people dying there. So the next time you visit - be sure to keep an eye out for any signs that hell spawn are taking over Earth, and maybe shoot off a quick email to let us know if there is.
Our next tale was about former child star Lora Lee Michel, and her story touched my heart. Once billed as the next Shirley Temple her future seemed bright. But by the age of twenty two, she was in prison. Then she disappeared. Wherever she is: I hope she is at rest. I also hope that someone can let her family know where they can pay respects to their missing sister. I believe it is very important to tell stories like Lora’s. By telling stories like this; future child actors may not have to go through things like Lora did, but sadly as we demonstrated in this episode - the abuses to child stars still occur today.
Our last episode this month had to do with haunted shipwrecks. To me, it makes a lot of sense that a shipwreck could be haunted. After all, many times when a ship gets into trouble; it usually results in the loss of lives. A great example of this was one of the ships we spoke about in our episode: the SS Kamloops. For decades, the location of the Kamloops was a mystery. Then in September 1977; divers discovered her, and were able to confirm it was here when pictures taken of the ship showed its name peeking out through years of accumulated debris. It is rare that in a wreck this old that there would still be a human body within the ship, but due to the conditions one is seen regularly. Below is a picture of the man they call Old Whitey, and I hope that someday his spirit can finally rest.
